• WildFlower Fest - A celebration of spring

  • Join Il-Majjistral Park to celebrate spring by joining one or more of our varied activities during the long weekend from 17 to 19 March.

    Full Programme:

    Saturday 17th March 2018:

    10:00 - Propagation of some indigenous flowers - Presentation by Francesca Lanzon from The Gaia Foundation giving hints on how to grow some beautiful wild local flowers in your garden. This presentation will be followed by a walk in the park to identify some of the plants mentioned.

    14:00 - Botanical walk with botanist Dr Joseph Buhagiar who will first give a presentation on the work carried out at The Argotti Botanical Gardens in Floriana.

    Sunday 18th March 2018:

    10:00 - Focus on flowers - A photographic workshop conducted by Freelance Photographer Johann Debono. Practical sessions on macro photography will be held outside in the park.

    14:00 - Art and Flowers - An art workshop conducted by popular local artist Philip Agius. Philip will first explain and show methods of drawing / painting flowers and then a practical session in the park will follow. The mediums to be used will be pencils (2H, 2B), coloured pencils and water colours. Please note that these will not be supplied to participants but they will need to bring their preferred medium with them together with a drawing book or sketch book.

    19:00 - Lejla Maltija - An activity to be held together with the Ghaqda tal-Malti and will include the reading of various pieces from Maltese literature in which there is reference to wild flowers, followed by information on the flowers mentioned by well known Environmentalist Alfred E Baldacchino.

    Monday 19th March 2018:

    10:00 - Local plants used as musical instruments or sound generators - a very interesting presentation by Anna Borg Cardona, an expert on local folk instruments and musical traditions. Not to be missed.

    14:00 - A botanical walk with botanist Stephen Mifsud. Stephen will first explain what his work with Eko Gozo involves and then a walk in aid of his very popular web-site maltawildplants.com, will follow since all proceeds from this walk will go to support this website which so many of us often use.

    Fee: Adult 5 euro, Child 3 euro

    Discount: For anyone booking for 3 or 4 activities the price is Adult 4 euro, Child 2 euro. Those who book for more than 4 activities, the fee is Adult 3 euro and Child 1 euro.
