  • Il-kittieb Sloven u rebbieħ ta' bosta premji letterarji Jasmin B. Frelih hu il-mistieden speċjali tal-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus li se jittella’ bejn il-21 u t-23 ta’ Marzu fil-quadrangle tal-Università. Din hi opportunità unika għal studenti u membri tal-pubbliku biex jiltaqgħu ma’ dan il-kittieb straordinarju, u biex jitgħallmu mingħandu hekk kif jaqsam l-esperjenzi tiegħu.

    Matul il-Festival, Frelih se jieħu sehem fi tliet attivitajiet: intervista ma' Noel Tanti dwar il-letteratura, il-ħajja u l-karriera fit-23 ta' Marzu fil-5.30pm.

    Jasmin B. Frelih twieled f'Kranj, Slovenja, fl-1986. Hu studja l-letteratura komparattiva u t-teorija letterarja u storja fil-Fakultà tal-Arti, fl-Università ta' Ljubljana. L-ewwel rumanz tiegħu Na/pol (In/Half) ġie ppubblikat fl-2013 minn Cankarjeva Založba u kiseb attenzjoni konsiderevoli mill-medja, kif ukoll ħafna tifħir kritiku. Irċieva l-Premju għall-Aħjar Debutt Letterarju fil-Fiera Annwali tal-Ktieb fl-Islovenja, ġie magħżul bħala finalist għall-Premju tar-Rumanz tas-Sena u l-Premju tal-Ktieb tas-Sena. Sussegwentement ingħata l-Premju tal-Unjoni Ewropea għall-Letteratura fl-2016.

    Il-ġabra ta' novelli Ideoluzije (Tiny Ideologies) ġie ppubblikat minn LUD Literatura fl-2015. Fil-ħames snin tiegħu bħala editur ta' prosa fittizja għal-ġurnal ta' riċensjoni letterarja I.D.I.O.T., ħadem ma' wħud mill-aqwa kittieba u poeti tal-ġenerazzjoni letterarja Slovena ġdida. Novelli, esejs u traduzzjonijiet ta' awturi Amerikani dehru f'ġurnali ta' reċensjoni letterarja bħal Sloveni Sodobnost, Literatura u Dialogi. It-traduzzjonijiet tiegħu tal-poeżija Slovena għall-Ingliż ġew ippubblikati fi Banipal, Versopolis.

    Il-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus huwa organizzat mill-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb u l-Għaqda tal-Malti, b’attivitajiet bejn id-9.00am sal-4.00 pm. Il-Ġimgħa l-attivtajiet jibqgħu sejrin sat-tard. Il-Festival għandu l-għan li jippromwovi l-letteratura waqt li jagħti spazju lill-pubblikaturi u lid-distributuri tal-kotba biex jippromwovu u jbigħu l-pubblikazzjonijiet tagħhom. Il-programm tal-Festival huwa varjat u joffri firxa wiesgħa ta’ avvenimenti li jolqtu l-interessi ta’ ħafna, u jinkludi tnedijiet ta’ kotba, taħditiet u films, workshops u mużika lajv.

    Award-winning Slovenian writer Jasmin B. Frelih is the special guest of this year’s Campus Book Festival, which will be held between March 21 and 23 at the University’s quadrangle. This is a unique opportunity for University students and the public to meet this exceptionally talented author in person, and to learn from him as he shares his writing experiences.

    Frelih will be interviewed by Noel Tanti on Friday 23 March at 5.30 pm. He will talk about his writing, his experiences and his career.

    Jasmin B. Frelih was born in Kranj, Slovenia, in 1986. He studied comparative literature and literary theory and history at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. His first novel Na/pol (In/Half) was published in 2013 by Cankarjeva Založba to considerable media attention and critical acclaim. It received the Best Literary Debut Award at the annual Slovenian Book Fair and was shortlisted for the Novel of the Year and Book of the Year awards. It was subsequently awarded the European Union Prize for Literature in 2016.

    His short story collection Ideoluzije (Tiny Ideologies) was published by LUD Literatura in 2015. In his five years as a prose fiction editor for the literary review I.D.I.O.T., he worked with some of the best writers and poets of the new Slovenian literary generation. His short fiction, essays and translations of American authors appear in the leading Slovenian literary reviews Sodobnost, Literatura, and Dialogi. His translations of Slovenian poetry into English have been published in Banipal, Versopolis.

    The Campus Book Festival is organised by the National Book Council and the Għaqda tal-Malti, kicking off daily at 9.00 am with back-to-back activities planned until 4.00 pm. On Friday the activities will continue until late. The Festival aims to promote literature while giving publishers and book distributors a platform to sell and promote their publications. The Festival’s programme is vast and offers a wide range of events to suit many interests, from book launches and talks to film screenings, workshops and live music.
