  • Jekk tkun mediku, poeta, botaniku, u djarjista li tivvjaġġa fl-Ewropa tas-seklu 17, u jekk tittratta firxa ġmielha ta’ temi - bħall-kult Pawlin, il-bliet Ewropej, il-viaggi di corso, il-benefiċċji taċ-ċikkulata, u s-setgħa mirakoluża tal-Glossopietre (il-fossila magħrufa bħala ilsien San Pawl) - bilfors tqanqal kurżità dwar il-personalità tiegħek. Giovan Francesco Buonamico jqanqal din il-kurżità. Kien bniedem intellettwali tas-seklu 17 li ppersonifika t-temperament Barokk ta’ żmienu, il-moviment li jimraħ lil hinn mill-konfini. U sal-lum għadu jagħtina battikata biex naqbduh f’ritratt statiku, għax donnu ma setax joqgħod f’post, suġġett, ilsien, jew profil wieħed għal tul ta’ żmien. Din il-preżentazzjoni, mogħtija mill-Kap tad-Dipartiment tal-Malti, l-Università, Dr Bernard Micallef, se tittratta fil-qosor id-diversi lati intellettwali ta' dan il-persunaġġ.

If you are a medic, a poet, a botanist and diarist travelling in Europe in the 17th century, and if you treat a wide variety of themes - such as the cult of St Paul, European cities, the viaggi di corso, the benefits of chocolate, and the miraculous power of Glossopietre (the fossil known as St Paul’s tongue) - you will surely arouse some curiosity. Giovan Francesco Buonamico arouses this curiosity. He was a 17th century intellectual who personified the Baroque temperament of his time, a movement that goes a step further than the norm. Till this day, it is very difficult to capture him in a static photo, as he does not seem to fit into a single place, subject, language or profile for a period of time. This presentation, delivered by the Head of the Maltese Department at University, Dr Bernard Micallef, will focus on the various intellectual sides of this personality.

The Campus Book Festival is organised by the National Book Council and the Għaqda tal-Malti, kicking off daily at 9 am with back-to-back activities planned until 4 pm. On Friday the activities will continue until late. The Festival aims to promote literature while giving publishers and book distributors a platform to sell and promote their publications. The Festival’s programme is vast and offers a wide range of events to suit many interests, from book launches and talks to film screenings, workshops and live music.
