  • L-awturi Leanne Ellul u Clare Azzopardi se jkunu qed jiddiskutu t-temi komuni fil-kotba tagħhom Gramma u Frejp, b’mod partikolari temi diffiċli bħall-anoressija u l-bullying, u d-diffikultajiet li kellhom biex jiktbu fuq dawn is-suġġetti.

    L-avveniment se jittella’ l-Ġimgħa 23 ta’ Marzu fl-12.00 pm fuq il-quadrangle tal-Università, bħala parti mill-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus, organizzat mill-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb u l-Għaqda tal-Malti. Id-diskussjoni se tiffoka wkoll fuq kitba għaż-żgħażagħ fil-kuntest lokali.

    'Gramma' ta’ Leanne Ellul jittratta t-tema tal-anoressija u s-sistema ta’ appoġġ (jew in-nuqqas tagħha) fis-soċjetà tagħna. Hi tesplora l-implikazzjonijiet tal-marda – it-telfa, it-tiftixa, il-ħarba. Fil-ktieb, l-anoressija tista’ titqies bħala skuża biex tiġi studjata l-kundizzjoniji umana.

'Frejp' ta’ Clare Azzopardi hi storja attwali li tittratta l-bullying fuq l-internet. Hi storja fuq ir-realtajiet tal-ħajja virtwali u s-social media, u l-generazzjoni imsejħa 'digital natives'. Il-ktieb jesplora kulturi differenti ta’ zgħażagħ f’lingwaġġ li jistgħu jidentifikaw miegħu. Hu miktub fi stil mexxej b'struttura, fejn l-istorja tmur lura u ‘l quddiem fiż-żmien.

    Il-Festival tal-Ktieb fuq il-Kampus huwa organizzat mill-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb u l-Għaqda tal-Malti, b’attivitajiet bejn id-9.00am sal-4.00 pm. Il-Ġimgħa l-attivtajiet jibqgħu sejrin sat-tard. Il-Festival għandu l-għan li jippromwovi l-letteratura waqt li jagħti spazju lill-pubblikaturi u lid-distributuri tal-kotba biex jippromwovu u jbigħu l-pubblikazzjonijiet tagħhom. Il-programm tal-Festival huwa varjat u joffri firxa wiesgħa ta’ avvenimenti li jolqtu l-interessi ta’ ħafna, u jinkludi tnedijiet ta’ kotba, taħditiet u films, workshops u mużika lajv.

Authors Leanne Ellul and Clare Azzopardi will come together to discuss the common threads in their books 'Gramma' and 'Frejp', in particular difficult themes like anorexia and bullying, and the challenges encountered in exploring these themes in their novels.
The event, scheduled for Friday 23 March at 12 pm on the University’s quadrangle, is part of the Campus Book Festival, organised by the National Book Council and the Għaqda tal-Malti. The discussion will also revolve around young adult fiction and the Maltese context.

Leanne Ellul’s Gramma explores anorexia and the support system (or lack of) in our society. It goes beyond describing the condition. It explores its implications and the individual’s search for meaning, sense of loss, and escapism. In 'Gramma', anorexia is an excuse for an inquiry into the human condition.

Clare Azzopardi’s 'Frejp' is a topical story about cyber-bullying and being 'fraped'. It is a novel immersed in the realities of virtual living and social media, and the generation of digital natives. It explores sub cultures in a language that young people can identify with, written in a casual style. The narrative shuttles to and fro across the timeline.

The Campus Book Festival is organised by the National Book Council and the Għaqda tal-Malti, kicking off daily at 9 am with back-to-back activities planned until 4 pm. On Friday the activities will continue until late. The Festival aims to promote literature while giving publishers and book distributors a platform to sell and promote their publications. The Festival’s programme is vast and offers a wide range of events to suit many interests, from book launches and talks to film screenings, workshops and live music.
